Better Words

AJ tweaked the code that pulls the random word, so hopefully it won’t pull words that have no definition, even if they are words that are used.

Hopefully they will be better going forward!

AJ decided to collate a bunch of words instead of the api so there are over 1000 words in the list enough for 3 years of never duplicating, but I’m sure there will be duplicates as it’s just a random number being created each day. If you see a strange word from here on out AJ can remove it from the list and it’ll never show up again.

You might have noticed

Today there are a lot of words and an extra photo prompt.

AJ is working on moving the automatic generation away from Digital Ocean, and moving it to edge functions on Netlify. I don’t expect anyone to understand that but that’s what it is at present.

So for the next couple days you may see double posts while AJ makes sure that the new stuff is posting as intended. (And she says there is a bug she can’t figure out why it’s not working. So there is that bit of fun too.)

I THINK if we got things right, the new version of posts will hit a round midnight CST time. So hopefully that’ll happen too.

I didn’t realize you guys weren’t getting any new prompts. It was a thing that we could have fixed easily. AJ’s done gone and fixed it. And checked to make sure it’s all up and running.

I will likely partaking of the latest words and maybe photos for a while. My story ran out and I need some inspiration and randomness to keep the blog alive.

Again I’m sorry about that, keep on writing! We love seeing your stuff!

Word List

The word list has changed to a smaller subset of most commonly used words that have at least 3 letters in them. I think AJ removed things that wouldn’t help with writing something. And I think the list has some crap words in it but 20K words is still a lot to pare down.

So hopefully we’ll see better words go down.
